Award Winning Apprentices at the CECA Southern Lunch
4th July 2022We are absolutely thrilled that not one, but two of our brilliant Apprentices have won awards at the CECA Southern Lunch this year.
Robert Chihaia, Site Agent, won the ‘Most Promising Apprentice 2022 Level 4-7’, and Joshua Maney, Assistant HSEQ Advisor, won the ‘Most Promising Apprentice 2022 Level 2-3’.
Not only is this fantastic recognition for the two as individuals, but their differing stories just go to show the varied forms an apprenticeship can take.
Robert has a background in Engineering, with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and further holds a master’s in Structural Engineering. He is an asset to the region and has brought his knowledge and skills to a whole host of Barhale projects over recent years. From September 2018-November 2021 Robert completed a Level 6 BA (Hons) Business Management – Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship.
James McKenzie, Contracts Manager, adds:
“I have worked with Robert for the bulk of his time with Barhale. From the outset he has set exceptionally high standards, held by himself, and passed onto all those he works with regardless of level. He is mature beyond his working years and thrives to ensure areas such as quality, safety or technical assurance are never compromised. He has a thirst for knowledge equalled only by his want to ensure this is shared within the business along with new ideas or innovations. He is well thought of and respected, an excellent colleague.”
In a very different route, Joshua came to Barhale having achieved a Geography degree. With this non-traditional background for the construction industry, it was his interest in environmental work that led him to undertake a Level 3 Health, Safety and Environment Technician Apprenticeship. Since joining, Joshua has become an integral part of our HSEQ Team not only at a regional level but wider across the business.
Andy Dodman, Head of HSEQ adds:
“Joshua has the ability to balance his educational and progression development with applying the skills he has gained in the working environment which is an essential part of his professional development.”
Huge congratulations again to Robert and Joshua on this wonderful achievement!
