Chris Davies MP checks on the progress at the Elan Valley Aqueduct Project
5th September 2016Chris Davies MP has recently visited the BNM Alliance tunnelling operations in Bleddfa. During the visit Chris had an opportunity to hear from site engineers about the works and also took a tour of the tunnel and the boring machine to discuss the particulars of the work being undertaken. The project is being carried out by the BNM alliance, which is comprised of Barhale and North Midland Construction for Seven Trent Water.
In total the aqueduct is over 73 miles long, and delivers over 300 million litres of water each day to Birmingham, serving over 1.2 million customers in Birmingham and surrounding areas. It was built over 100 years ago to serve a growing population in the city. This project’s goal is to make sure that the aqueduct is resilient for the future.
Chris said “I drive past the site often and it is amazing to see what work is actually happening there and how they are building a new network to create a long term solution. The team on the site has been working hard to making sure that the local community is kept informed of any updates and that a strong relationship is built with them. This is a vital infrastructure project that is supporting the local economy across Brecon and Radnorshire and I was grateful to have the opportunity to see its progress.”
