Kempton Park shaft refurbishment comes in for Barhale
10th July 2020Barhale has confirmed its position as the go-to contractor for the Thames Water Ring Main’s current shaft refurbishment programme with its latest commission at Kempton Park.
It brings the number of shafts that Barhale has worked on in this round to 16 out of the total of 22 on the Ring Main. At 80km long, the 2.5m diameter tunnel built between 1988 and 1994 is a critical part of the water infrastructure carrying around one-sixth of the capital’s daily water demand. The works being carried out at Snakey Lane, Middlesex will comprise; upgrading the shaft drainage, access, flooring, electrics and pipework. The works commenced in June 2020 and is estimated to be completed in August 2020.
According to Barhale Project Manager, Steve Best the works are crucial to the continued supply of clean drinking water to Thames Water customers. “The refurbishment means that London’s drinking water supply will not be compromised by the ageing and corrosion of the plant and equipment,” he said. “We are also improving access and working conditions for Thames Water staff, which is obviously the fundamental purpose of this project.”
