Barhale team goes above and beyond at Christmas
12th January 2021Although Christmas is fast disappearing in the rear-view mirror, we thought we’d share one last piece of seasonal cheer thanks to the amazing efforts of one of our teams working in central London.
On December 23rd, while carrying out essential emergency works in Shaftesbury Avenue on behalf of Thames Water, the site team came to the aid of a stranded Polish woman, Dorota, who had come to the UK on the promise of a job.
Having finished their shift, the team were just beginning to make their way home when they discovered Dorota near the site entrance and in a state of distress. One of the team was able to speak Polish and they quickly realised what had happened: the job promise had been false and she was now stranded with nowhere to stay, nothing to eat and no money.
Springing into action, the team led by Site Agent Sathya Nagarajah and Foreman Piotr Pazdzioch immediately found a place at a local hostel and arranged to pay for her food and accommodation.
The team also hatched a plan to help her return home safely which included arranging a Covid-19 test for her and purchasing a coach ticket. By 30th December Dorota was safely back in Poland and able to spend New Year with her family.
We are incredibly proud of the entire team who generously donated and would afford a special Thankyou to Sathya, Piotr and Ioan Hancu who went the extra mile!
They are truly an embodiment of the Barhale Values but more importantly, they are simply exceptional human beings.
