People

People are at the heart of Barhale. Our Values have been in place since the mid-1980s and are firmly rooted in our behaviour at work. Our continuing work with Investors in People, demonstrates our commitment to providing a challenging and stimulating work environment where individuals are encouraged to reach their potential.

A yearly highlight for the business is our Three Pillars Awards Conference. This culminates in an awards ceremony to celebrate our Living the Values Awards, Barhale’s internal recognition programme.

Key to Barhale is to source, train and retain our people. We have a structured process in place to ensure that our people are set clear objectives, receive feedback and have the opportunity to fulfil their potential – with many staff progressing into managerial positions within the company. The Learning and Development function takes the following steps:

This process ensures appropriate development and identification of aspirations on an individual basis. Our belief is that by developing our people, we enable them to reach their potential, which in turn, helps achieve our overall business objectives and creates the behaviours we want to see demonstrated within the business. Appraisals are held between the employee and their Line Manager. Their purpose is to review the previous years objectives, set the upcoming years objectives and identify any skills gaps and training needs. There are three instances in which appraisals will take place:

As testament to our dedication in developing our personnel, Barhale is a member of the ‘Investors in People’ scheme, having achieved the Gold Standard award. We are committed to the development of our personnel and this accreditation demonstrates our ability to; lead our employees, support their development and ultimately improve our overall approach to personal training and career progression.

Barhale have an in-house training centre which caters for the training needs of all Barhale employees. It has a dedicated area outside for confined space, NRSWA training and excavation courses. All of which are accredited by City and Guilds. The Training Centre has four training rooms which are used for health, safety and environmental management courses. The development of the Training Centre demonstrates our commitment to training at all levels and across a range of competences.
