Barhale successfully rehabilitates a 16 inch water main at Eversholt Street

25th April 2024
On behalf of Thames Water Capital delivery, Barhale undertook works to rehabilitate a 16 inch water main in Eversholt Street to further future-proof the network. Through using innovative technology to upgrade ageing victorian pipes, the team reduced disruption for Thames Water’s customers in a busy central London location. The 16 inch trunk main has slip lining with approximately 630m of 355PE pipe with 30m of open cut.

Throughout the works, Barhale successfully worked collaboratively with several other utility owners including Vodafone and UKPN resulting in the team being able to remove 56 disruptive days from the programme in a very busy congested area alongside Euston station.

The team had to overcome a number of challenges whilst delivering the scheme.  Working in a truly congested area, we had to meticulously manage multiple utilities; including a gas main running alongside the water main for the length of the project. Responsive planning was shown when the depth of the water main unexpectedly changed in locations whilst coordinating working in a busy and traffic sensitive area where access needed to be maintained throughout the works. An innovative solution was needed when a section of the main needed an inline valve to be installed. During an isolation, this was done using a line stop to enable a valve to be cut into the main.

Our teams have been fantastic, rising to the challenge and receiving lots of positive feedback as a result.
