Engineering Resilience: Barhale drives Phase 1 of Severn Trent’s vital infrastructure upgrade
17th December 2024Barhale has been tasked as part of Severn Trent’s scheme to provide resilience to Melbourne Water Treatment Works and the Ragdale Reservoir trunk main in Derbyshire and Leicestershire. As part of the phase 1 works, a booster pumping station will be built and below ground, a network of pipes and valves will allow the pumps to temporarily connect into the main and boost the flow of water to Ragdale reservoir. Furthermore, the main suction and delivery mains which are 700mm diameter ductile iron pipes, which use E-lock mechanically restrained joints. All connection works to the watermain will be carried out, whilst still live.
So far, Barhale have installed 400m stone haul road to main works. Excavations have been dug onto the main and shoring installed. At locations of under pressure tees, the main has been supported and ground around pipes have been excavated ready to install steel fabrication pieces for under pressure drilling and thrust block casting.
With completion due early 2025, this resilience project will play an important role in ensuring Severn Trent’s infrastructure remains robust and future ready. A huge thank you to everyone involved so far, for their dedication and hard work in driving this forward, so that we can make a tangible difference for the communities they serve.
